Programs

The School of Materials Science and Engineering has three undergraduate majors: Materials Science and Engineering, Composite Materials and Engineering, and Material Physics.

1.      Material Science and Engineering

The major Material Science and Engineering is the only national characteristic major and one of the first national first-class majors in our university. Its history can be traced back to metallurgy in 1954 and polymer in the 1980s.

 It has trained more than 6000 qualified engineering and technical talents for metallurgy, building materials, chemical industry, machinery, electronics and other industries. As a first-level major, it has five specialized directions: metal materials, metal processing, inorganic non-metallic materials, polymer materials, and building energy saving materials.

 

(1) Materials Science and Engineering (Inorganic non-metallic Materials)

Materials Science and Engineering (inorganic nonmetallic Materials) is approved by Excellent Engineers Training program of the Ministry of Education.

Main Courses

Introduction to Materials Science, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Modern Analytical Technology of Materials, Properties of Materials, Powder Engineering, Inorganic Non-metallic Materials Technology, Inorganic building Materials, etc.

(2) Material Science and Engineering (Metal Materials)

In this program, the students are trained with preparation, processing and application of metallurgical engineering, metal materials, metal materials forming, etc.

Main Courses:

Introduction to materials Science, Fundamentals of Materials Science, modern analysis technology of materials, material properties, principles of metallurgy, principles of metal heat treatment, principles of plastic forming, metal forming technology, applications of computers in materials science, etc.

(3) Material Science and Engineering (Metal Processing)

In this program, the students are trained with knowledge and skills of manufacturing, operation, and testing in the field of plastic deformation, rolling, forging, extrusion and other metal processing.

Main Courses:

Introduction to Materials Science, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Modern analysis technology of Materials, Material properties, Theory of Plastic Forming, Metal processing technology and equipment, Principle of heat treatment, etc.

 

(4) Materials Science and Engineering (Polymer Materials)

In this program, the students are trained with preparation, processing, and application of rubber, plastic, and green chemical building materials. The students can be engaged in the field of rubber, plastic, paint, ink, adhesives, chemical building materials, resin matrix composites and other related industries.

Main Courses:

Polymer chemistry, Polymer physics, Polymer material forming process, Resin synthesis process of architectural coatings, Application of computers in materials science, etc.

(5) Materials Science and Engineering (Building Energy Saving Materials)

In this program, the students are trained with skills of the preparation, processing and application of new building materials, green building materials, building energy saving materials and 3D printed building materials.

Main Courses:

Introduction to Materials Science, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Introduction to Building Materials, Preparation technology of building materials, Building energy saving materials, Modularization and design of building engineering, etc.

 

2.      Composite Materials and Engineering

The major is established in 2010, and is mainly focused on the R & D, preparation and application of polymer-matrix composites. The students are trained to solve complex engineering problems in the R & D, preparation, and application of composites.

Main Courses:

Introduction to Material Science, Fundamentals of Material Science, Modern Analytical Technology of Materials, Fundamentals of materials science, Modern analysis technology of materials, Material properties, Polymer chemistry and physics, Basis of composite structure design, Composite principle, Material surface and interface, etc.

 

3.       Materials Physics (Photoelectric Materials)

The major is established in 2010, and is engaged to cultivate high-quality talents with knowledge and skills in the preparation, processing, and application of photoelectric materials in the field of semiconductor chips, LED display and lighting, solar cells, lithium-ion batteries, etc.

Main Courses:

Introduction to Material Science, Fundamentals of Material Science, Modern Analytical Technology of Materials, Fundamentals of Material Engineering, Solid physics, Material physics, Material Chemistry and Preparation Technology, Fundamentals and physics of semiconductor Device, Microelectronics technology, Semiconductor materials, optoelectronic materials, etc.
